Chocolate & Mon Chéri (Chapter-1)

Each day I love you more, today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.

I read the words scribbled on the yellowish piece of paper silently. Nostalgia starts washing over me as memories of that day run through my mind. I put it back in between the pages of the book. Placing the book on the table, I pick up the coffee cup from beside it and slowly take a small sip while my eyes travel out of the window. With a soothing view of the garden representing different colors, I let my mind travel back in time.

A soft sensation on the forehead wakes me up. I smile knowing who it is and open my eyes to confirm it. A pair of eyes, my husband's to be exact, so deep and dark, is staring right back at me, with an equal amount of love as mine. I wrap my arms around his neck as he sits on the bed pulling both of us up.

"Did I wake you up?"

I shake my head pecking on his lips, "Sorry, mon chéri. I fell asleep. Did you just come back?"

He chuckles at the nickname, that deep throaty laugh with one of his fists in front of his mouth. I don't know why he laughs like that whenever I call him that. But I love this laughter of his. And that's why I call him that.

"Yes, just got back. And I got something for you," he says stretching the word 'and'.

I grin and almost shout in excitement, "Really? What is it?"

He pulls something from behind him and puts it on my lap. My eyes land on it. It seems like a book wrapped in colorful wrapping paper. I look up at him and he gestures me to open it.

Without wasting any more time, I tear the paper open and confirm my guess. Yes, it's a book. And not any other book, my favorite book which I've somehow managed to lose long ago.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood.

A loud squeal leaves my mouth and I jump into his arms hugging him tightly.

He remembered that!! Seriously?! Even I forgot!

"Thank you! Thank you!"

He hugs back and starts patting my back while laughing, "It's nothing, chocolate. Open the book and you’ll find something more interesting."

I laugh at his weird choice of nickname. I don't know why he calls me that but I love it.

I pull back from him and shift my attention back to the book. As I flip open the cover, something falls on my lap. Looking down, I find a neatly folded piece of paper. I look at him in question. He motions for me to open it this time. Putting the book aside, I carefully start to open it. My heart starts drumming against my ribcage. Why am I feeling nervous all of sudden?

Finally, the inside of the paper comes into my view. I immediately recognize the writing. Obviously, it's his, so neat and clean. But that's not what touches my heart, it's what the words are saying.

Each day I love you more, today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.

I look up at him, grinning like a maniac, only to find him doing the same. Wasting no more time, I quickly jump on him again and start kissing him again and again. He kisses back wrapping his hands around me.

"I'm not even gonna ask whether you liked it or not. You're making it quite obvious," he utters in between the kisses.

"Best gift ever! I love you so so much!" I squeal kissing him again.

"I don't think I need to say that I feel the same," he replies against my lips making me grin again.
